In 2022, Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández celebrates its 70th anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, the company returns to the Luckman for three evenings featuring renewed performances of their most celebrated classic choreography.
This occasion not only marks the 70th anniversary of Ballet Folklórico, but also the 75th anniversary of Cal State LA. Furthermore, these performances will mark the 6th, 7th, and 8th times that the legendary dance company has performed at the Luckman.
In 1952, dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández founded the iconic Ballet Folklórico de México, having embarked at a very early age on a quest to preserve the dancing traditions of her country. Her goal was to share with the nation and the world the beauty of Mexican dance from the pre-Colombian era, the Hispanic Viceroy period, and the popular period of Mexico’s revolutionary years.
Merely a few years into their formation, Ballet Folklórico achieved a degree of international success that has been maintained for 70 years. Amalia Hernández and Ballet Folklórico de México have since created over forty ballets for an ensemble of over seventy dancers. The music, technical rigor, elaborate costuming, and Amalia’s choreography have helped the Ballet and its followers disseminate the zest for rich Mexican tradition and folklore throughout the world. Since 1959, the company has been permanently housed at the beautiful Palacio de Bellas Artes in heart of Mexico City.

Este año, Ballet Folklorico de México de Amalia Hernández celebra su 70 aniversario. Para conmemorar la ocasión, la compañía regresa al Luckman por tres noches consecutivas con actuaciones renovadas de sus coreografías clásicas más conocidas.
Esta ocasión no sólo marca el septuagésimo aniversario de Ballet Folklórico, sino también el septuagésimo quinto aniversario de Cal State LA. Además, estas actuaciones marcaran la sexto, séptima y octava vez que la legendaria compañía de baile viene al Luckman.
En 1952, la bailarina y coreógrafa Amalia Hernández fundó el icónico Ballet Folklórico de México, embarcandose a una edad temprana en una misión para preservar las danzas tradicionales de su país. Su objetivo era compartir con su país y el mundo la belleza de la danza mexicana desde la época precolombina, la era virreinal hispana, y el periodo de los años revolucionarios de México.
Con solo unos pocos años de haber sido fundado, Ballet Folklórico alcanzó un éxito internacional que ha mantenido durante 70 años. Amalia Hernández y Ballet Folklórico de México han creado más de 40 ballets conformados por más de 70 bailarines. La música, el rigor técnico, los atuendos muy elaborados, y la coreografía de Amalia han ayudado al Ballet y sus seguidores a difundir el entusiasmo de la tradición mexicanas y el folklor en todo el mundo. El Palacio de Bellas Artes en el corazón de la Ciudad de México ha sido el hogar de la compañía desde 1959.
